Magnificent Sonatas
Saturday 28 November 2026 at 7:30 pm

Praised for her "technical mastery" and "extraordinarily musical" performances, Icelandic-American cellist Geirþrúður Anna Guðmundsdóttir is carving a distinctive artistic voice, combining sensitivity with a bold and fiery stage presence. Her regular chamber music partner Antoine Préat, a critically acclaimed Franco-Belgian-British pianist, who was hailed as "one of the most gifted pianists of the young generation" for his singing warmth, profound artistic depth, and expressive storytelling.
Their programme is a thrilling collection of magnificent cello sonatas: Beethoven’s late-period masterpiece, Sonata in C major; Shostakovich’s Cello Sonata composed in his emotional turmoil; and Chopin’s glorious and only Sonata for a non-piano instrument. Combined with a lyrical cantabile, Dvorak’s Silent Woods, it will be an evening of pure bliss.
